Free drinking water on World Water Day
March 29, 2017
Over 650 million people in the world are experiencing the effects of the scarcity of water. Also, 1 out of 10 people is at risk of infectious diseases from the water they’re drinking.
In celebration of World Water Day last March 22, 2017, Mactan Rock helped address this rising global issue by giving free, safe and clean water for all in over 20+ major cities and provinces in the Philippines.
Mactan Rock was joined by its affiliates, Pilipinas Water Resources Inc. (PWRI), and Aquapure in this corporate social responsibility initiative. Free drinking water was given away in the various plants all over the Philippines: 3 plants are located in Lapu-Lapu City (Punta Engaño, Soong, Maribago and Pusok near Mactan-Cebu International Airport), and 1 in the North Reclamation Area in Mandaue City. Other plants are located in some areas in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, especially in the remote areas of Coron-Palawan, Tacloban-Leyte, and Cabadbaran-Magallanes.
For Aquapure, its Cebu plants are in Arpili, Balamban; Barangays Punta Princesa, Pardo, Banilad and NRA (Guanzon plant) in Cebu City; Cabadiangan, Compostela town; Liloan town; and in Lapu-Lapu City (Demi plant).
While PWRI has its main plant in the South Road Properties in Cebu City. Its other plants are located in Barangay Labangon, Cebu Port Authority, and Barangay Guizo, Mandaue City.
Between 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 pm., the locals, both children and the adults, flocked to the venue where water was scheduled to be freely given away. The residents were very happy receiving clean water without having to pay for it. In fact, one of the residents cried upon having her basin filled with clean water as she was expecting drought due to the El Niño and because she was beyond her budget to spend much for her family’s drinking water.
In the end, the event is turning out to be a success, thanks to the joint effort of Mactan Rock, PWRI, Aquapure and local government officials– as we live up to our vision of “Clean water for all.”
