Baciwa officially awards bulk water supply project to Cebu-based firm

THE Bacolod City Water District (Baciwa) has formally awarded its bulk water supply project to Cebu-based Mactan Rock Industries Inc. (MRII) and its consortium pending the signing of the contract.

Baciwa Director David Villanueva confirmed this Monday, saying that the water utility firm has recently sent the notice of award to the MRII and its partners, Tubig Pilipinas Group Inc. and TGV Builders, Inc.

He said that Mactan Rock and its partners want MRII Chief Executive Officer Antonio Tompar to represent them in the signing of the contract. However, the signing date has yet to be finalized.

Once the notice of award is signed, the contract signing between Baciwa and the private suppliers will follow, Villanueva added.

He said the project can be initiated once Baciwa issues the notice to proceed.

Despite the issuance of the notice of award, Villanueva said the companies must still assure them that they at least have P1-billion capital to start the bulk water supply project.

Under the project’s terms of reference, the bulk water supplier will generate a daily water supply of 9,842 cubic meters to Baciwa’s Injection Point 1 in Hacienda Loygoy, Barangay Granada and 6,500 cubic meters to Injection Point 2 in Barangay Mansilingan, both in Bacolod City.

MRII, the lone bidder for the said project, has offered to supply Baciwa with water at the rates of P8.85 per cubic meter and P9.85 per cubic meter for both injection points, respectively.

Meanwhile, Vice Mayor Greg Gasataya lauded Baciwa for ensuring that the private firms are capable of becoming its bulk water supplier.

“The bulk water supply project will contribute to the economic developments of the city if it will become successful.” (CNC)
